NYC To Experience Lags In Train Schedule Due To Omicron Surge Among MTA Officials

By 12/27/2021 11:00 AMNo CommentsBy YidInfo Staff

On Sunday evening, the MTA informed straphangers that the next several days would see significant impacts on the daily schedule. The reason? A surge in COVID-19 cases among MTA workers.

Likely to last through Thursday, Subway commuters in the Big Apple will have to wait longer for their scheduled trains, as per a Tweet from NYCTsubway. In its notification, the agency has said, This Monday through Thursday, trains will run less frequently than usual. Like everyone in New York, we’ve been affected by the COVID surge. We’re taking proactive steps to provide the best, most consistent service we can. That means you may wait a little longer for your train.

Before you head out, please plan ahead.  Check http://MTA.info or MYmta to see how frequently trains are running at your station. Our team is also here 24/7 to help you get where you’re going. @ or DM us here, or chat with us on WhatsApp (http://mta.info/whatsapp).”

The agency also added, “By reducing scheduled service, we’re able to re-allocate train crews where they’re needed, rather than cancel individual trips. We’re also working quickly to implement New York State’s revised quarantine guidelines for essential workers, which will help with staff shortages.”

This being said, the Omicron surge hasn’t just led to a delay in trains but has wreaked havoc on thousands of domestic flights which were canceled over the holiday weekend as COVID sickened untold numbers of airline crews.
