New York and New Jersey are set to experience soaring temperatures today, and tomorrow, with excessive heat warnings in place. Due to expected high temps, cooling centers will open Tuesday across New York City.
Weather forecasts are looking tremendously hot for New York City as highs are expected in the mid-to-upper 90s. The city is reminding people to conserve energy amid the hot stretch, saying, “Due to the intense heat, all households and businesses should limit energy usage to prevent power outages. Please limit the use of washers, dryers, air conditioners, & other energy-intensive equipment, and turn off lights/televisions when not needed.”

According to Storm Team 4 NY, daytime heating combined with a good amount of instability through the end of the week could stir up a few late-day showers and thunderstorms each day. Some of those could turn severe, though the primary risk is well west of New York City.
Given the warnings, it is advisable to stay hydrated and wear loose-fitting and light-colored clothing while trying to stay away from the sun.
