According to federal authorities, a New York woman was sentenced to four months in jail for interfering with crew members aboard a flight from Dallas to Los Angeles last year that had to be diverted to Phoenix.

They claimed Kelly Pichardo and another first-class passenger were intimidating during the journey. Both women were removed from the plane after landing at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on February 24, 2021.

The authorities said each lady assaulted a passenger throughout the trip and yelled racist slurs when a male passenger urged them to stop.

Pichardo is also accused of spitting at the man when he attempted to capture the altercation.

The FBI and Phoenix police investigated the situation, and the two ladies were charged with disorderly conduct for verbally and physically abusing other customers and flight crew members.

According to prosecutors, Pichardo, a 32-year-old Bronx resident, was forced to pay approximately $9,200 in reparations to American Airlines as a result of the confrontation.

According to authorities, Pichardo will also serve three years of supervised release following her prison sentence.

The incident’s other female passenger has pled guilty and will be sentenced in November.
