NYPD arrest convicted gang member for knife attacks inside Columbia University

The New York City Police Department arrested a 25-year-old gang member for allegedly stabbing dead a 30-year-old student and wounding a 27-year-old tourist inside the campus of Columbia University Thursday night.

The suspect, a member of the Bloods gang was arrested while threatening a third man with a knife inside Central Park.

The detained suspect who was convicted of gang assault in 2015 and served two years of a four-year prison stint was tagged in the death of Davide Giri who suffered stabbing wounds at his stomach near the corner of West 123rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue in Morningside Heights just before 11 p.m. Thursday.

Sources said Giri, the slain victim, was a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at Columbia.
Aside from Giri the suspect who has 11 prior arrests dating back to 2012 for robberies and assaults, as well as other alleged crimes was also accused of stabbing a tourist on his torso at t West 110th Street and Cathedral Parkway that same night.

Authorities are now conducting a deeper investigation on the random knife attack at the moment.
