NYPD memo orders cops with in-house jobs in precinct commands to take to the streets

According to an NYPD document, cops assigned to in-house tasks in precinct commanders have been directed to hit the streets.

The NYPD memo state that the police, who serve as plant managers, executing chores such as trash collection, will now return to their regular enforcement duties in the patrol, transit, and housing bureaus.

“Uniformed members assigned as plant managers… were assigned to maximize the number of uniformed police assigned to patrol tasks…” are no longer approved,” according to the memo.

“Any person assigned as a plant manager will be recalled to operational duties immediately,” the same message added.

The same memo tells that the NYPD intends to replace the cops assigned as plant managers with civilian personnel during the next 60 days.

The spike in serious felony crime through Aug. 21 — 79,361 instances compared to 58,695 in the same period in 2021 — likely influenced the decision.
