A school spokesman stated, “We are certainly startled and saddened by this circumstance and are now focused on examining our protocols while also ensuring this boy and his peers receive the help they need.
Police in Brooklyn detained a 14-year-old boy at Brooklyn Collegiate High School at the same time on Thursday morning while using a 9-mm. His backpack contained a pistol.
According to police, the adolescent was seen a few days previously flashing the gun to his companions on a neighborhood security video.
School officials removed him from class on Thursday morning and took him to a different room.
Police reported that the rifle was still in his backpack.
According to a city official from the school safety division, Brooklyn Collegiate does not have scanners at the entrances.
