A state official revealed Wednesday that a man from Maine who police said killed four people in a house before shooting three more randomly on a busy roadway had been released from jail days earlier.
According to Anna Black, director of governmental affairs for the Maine Department of Corrections, Joseph Eaton was freed from the Maine Correctional Center in Windham on Friday.
He had been there since being sentenced in March 2021 for breaking his probation.
According to state records, Eaton’s criminal past should have disqualified him from lawfully owning a firearm.
