The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Friday that a new Omicron variant has been detected in six more states – bringing the overall total of states with cases to 11.
Among the new states who have the Omicron variant are New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, and Utah.
Aside from the United States, 39 other countries already have the Omicron variant.
The Omicron variant was first detected in the states of New York, California, Colorado, Hawaii, and Minnesota.
While many fear Omicron, most health experts said the Delta strain of Covid-19 is likely a bigger threat as Americans gather for the holiday season.
CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said early evidence has shown that the Omicron may cause milder illness than its predecessors, including Delta.
Due to Omicron, leaders in the U.S. and abroad impose extra Covid-19 restrictions.
