Two U.S. officials stated on the condition of anonymity to discuss a decision that has not yet been made that the Pentagon has sent “prepare to deploy” orders to around 2,000 U.S. troops so they are ready to respond to the Israel-Hamas war.
According to one of the authorities, the troops would perform a range of support functions, including enhanced medical support and explosive ordnance support, such as boosting security at gate crossings.
One of the officials indicated that while they wouldn’t be transferred to Israel, they might be sent to other nations in the area. The directives were initially reported by The Wall Street Journal.
