Police in Rotterdam, a port city in the Netherlands, stated that several people were murdered in two shootings on Thursday at a university hospital and a neighboring residence.
However, they did not immediately provide the exact number of victims. Before disclosing any additional information, Rotterdam police stated on X, formerly Twitter, that they were notifying the next of kin.
After the shootings at the Erasmus Medical Center and the adjoining residence, a suspect was detained. Both places saw fire outbreaks, according to local authorities.
A handgun-wielding guy wearing military attire earlier on Thursday allegedly opened fire in a classroom at the university hospital, injuring one person.
They also mentioned a shooting that occurred earlier at a nearby house. The 32-year-old guy was detained by police under the hospital’s helipad, and they indicated he was a suspect in both shootings.
They stated that they did not think there were any further shooters. There was no immediate explanation given for the shootings on Thursday.
On social media, the Erasmus Medical Center pleaded with people not to visit the facility. Numerous tiny explosions at residences and places of business all across Rotterdam this year have been attributed to rival drug gangs.
