At a 9/11 memorial service held at Ground Zero on Monday, New York lawmakers and mourners were joined by Vice President Kamala Harris, Republican presidential contender and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The speakers from both political parties had not been invited to the ceremony commemorating the 22nd anniversary of the bloodiest terrorist act to occur on American soil.

Instead, the solemn ceremony in lower Manhattan was centered on the lengthy reading of the deceased’s names.

A sense of national solidarity across the political spectrum was fostered by the hijacked airline attacks, which left almost 3,000 people dead and completely altered American foreign and national security policies.

Vice President Kamala Harris, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani attended a 9/11 memorial event on Monday at Ground Zero with lawmakers and mourners from New York.

At the celebration honoring the 22nd anniversary of the most heinous terrorist attack to take place on American soil, the speakers from both major parties had not received invitations.

Instead, the protracted reading of the deceased’s names took up most of the mournful ceremony in lower Manhattan.

The hijacked airline attacks, which claimed over 3,000 lives and fundamentally changed American foreign and national security policies, encouraged a sense of national togetherness across the political spectrum.

Republicans and Democrats would stand side by side for many years to hear the bells ring and the names of the victims read at Ground Zero, which has long been off-limits for politics, on September 11.

The commemoration on Monday was skipped by Trump, a former New Yorker, who instead recorded a brief video address discussing the attacks and thanking first responders.

Upon his return to Washington after a trip to India and Vietnam, Biden was due to observe the day of commemoration at a military installation in Anchorage, Alaska.
