The Torah community is praying for the quick recovery of Rabbi Gershon Edelstein, 100, who was hospitalized on Shavuos night due to severe breathlessness.
After being inspected by emergency personnel on Shavuos night, Rabbi Edelstein was transferred to the Maayanei Hayeshua hospital at 2:30 AM on Friday. He had been feeling poorly.
Rabbi Edelstein, the Rosh Yeshiva of the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, is the head of the Lithuanian chareidi community in Israel.
Rabbi Edelstein’s condition stabilized over the night, but he is still in the hospital, and his health is being carefully watched.
The Rosh Yeshiva’s immediate family presided over the meals and prayers with him throughout the festival and Shabbat.
The Ponevezh Yeshiva students end their customary Shavuos night Torah study by reciting Psalms for the Rosh Yeshiva’s recovery.
The public is urged to pray for the recovery of Rabbi Yerachmiel Gershon, Miriam’s son.
