According to police, a prisoner seeking medical attention made his way out of a hospital in New York City by tying sheets together, rappelling from a fifth-floor window, and calling for a taxi. Shortly after 4:30 p.m., the 44-year-old man broke free from the Mount Sinai Beth Israel hospital in Manhattan on Wednesday and remained at large on Thursday, according to a police spokesperson.
The individual was taken to the hospital on August 4 for treatment of a medical issue after being detained since his arrest on July 31 for drug possession, according to a department of corrections official.
He was led to the bathroom for a shower and used the bedsheets to climb out the window, according to the police.
After making it to the street and boarding a taxi, he rappelled to a rooftop below. On Thursday, the police and the prison system were looking for him.
