US President Joe Biden has become the target of irate demonstrations in support of Palestinians after defending Israel during his visit to Tel Aviv.
A day after a bombing that left many dead at a Gaza hospital, Biden visited there on Wednesday. Israeli authorities attributed it to an airstrike, but Hamas said it was caused by errant rocket fire from other Palestinian militants.
Biden sided with Israel, saying the explosion appeared to be the result of the “other team.” Any statements or supporting documentation made public by the parties have not been independently confirmed by The Associated Press.
Biden and Netanyahu were called war criminals on a placard that said “Partner in Crime” by a protester in Amman. Political activist Rania al-Nimr stated, “Today, the Jordanians declare the Americans to be an enemy, just as the Israeli enemy is.”
A cardboard cutout of Biden’s head with a rope around his neck and blood smeared over his mouth was set on fire by protesters at the Palestinian refugee camp of Ein el-Hilweh in south Lebanon.
Outside of the U.S., demonstrators are in Tokyo. Embassies shouted “USA, shame on you” and “Joe Biden, shame on you.”
