
Angie Craig, a Minnesota representative, was assaulted in the elevator of her Washington, D.C., according to her office, apartment on Thursday morning.
The 50-year-old Democrat allegedly sustained bruises while defending herself from her unidentified attacker and avoiding significant harm.
Craig’s chief of staff stated, “There is no evidence that the incident was politically motivated.”
She entered politics after working as a journalist. She was elected to Congress as the first lesbian mother.
Craig, elected to a third term in November, appreciated the Metropolitan Police for responding to the 7:15 a.m. assault, according to her office.
D.C. According to law enforcement officials, killings and sexual abuse have increased, contributing to a 22% increase in overall crime.
In 2022, Capitol Police looked into about 10,000 threats against House members.
That is almost twice as many as four years ago.
