A number of Russian rabbis have called for an end to the violence in Ukraine and expressed concern that the situation is causing tensions among Russian Jews.
The Federation of Jewish Communities in Russia, one of the country’s two largest Jewish groups, organized the rabbis’ meeting on Monday.
“Relations between Russia and the rest of the world have swiftly worsened since the invasion began in February, resulting in economic uncertainty and, of special concern to the Jewish community, a sense of fear and isolation not felt in decades,” the federation said in a statement.
According to the statement, the conference passed a resolution calling for “peace and the halt of bloodshed.”
