On Thursday, a bus and a freight truck crashed on a highway close to Seoul, South Korea, igniting a fire that left at least five people dead and 37 injured, according to authorities.
What started the collision, the fire, and what the vehicle was carrying wasn’t immediately known.
According to a statement from the National Fire Agency, three of the injured were in critical condition, while 34 others suffered only minor wounds.
According to fire officials, the incident happened within a highway tunnel with a noise barrier.
Fire officials later claimed that the blaze had nearly been extinguished, despite earlier TV video showing dense, black plumes of smoke rising from the tunnel.
The fire agency’s public affairs department could not quickly confirm the origin of the five fatalities.
