The Coalition for Jewish Values (CJV), which claims to speak for over 2,500 traditional Orthodox rabbis on issues of public policy, denounced instances of spitting in front of Christian pilgrims while participating in religious ceremonies in Jerusalem.
The following statement was released jointly by CJV President Rabbi Yoel Schonfeld and CJV-Israel Chairman Rabbi Steven Pruzansky: Such disregard for guests and other believers is a flagrant breach of the respect that Jews are required to have for all people.
This conduct reveals a deficiency in authentic Torah instruction.
All Jews—religious and secular—must treat everyone with the respect and dignity they merit, and they must never exploit ideological differences to excuse cruel behavior.
