Staten Island, NY — Yesterday, a group representing the Orthodox Jewish communities of Staten Island issued their joint endorsement of Andrew Yang for Mayor of New York City.

The Staten Island Coalition consists of Jewish leaders and local groups representing the Jewish community in Staten Island, who are a united bloc vote of thousands of voters in Staten Island that believe Andrew Yang is the best candidate who can address the community’s needs, including fighting against anti-semitism that has been impacting neighborhoods across New York City.

The Staten Island Coalition joins New York State Assembly Member and Chair of the Staten Island Democratic party Michael Cusick in supporting Yang’s candidacy for mayor, becoming a part of the growing diverse coalition that believes in his vision to guide New York City into its next era of greatness.

Assembly Member Cusick and Yang visited the home of Staten Island Grand Rabbi, Rav Tzvi Pollack, where they got a warm welcome as they discussed how to work together.

Yang and Assembly Member Cusick also met with the United Bloc vote of Staten Island a few weeks ago to talk about the growing need for public safety including addressing how to best combat anti-semitism throughout New York City.

Yang and Assembly Member Cusick also met with Rabbi Yaakov Lehrfield of the Young Israel of Staten Island where he welcomed Andrew and said how he was amazed at his transition from looking to help people as an entrepreneur to running for public office and stepping up for New York City in its time of greatest need. Rabbi Yaakov Lehrfield noted that he was impressed with Andrew Yang’s willingness to set personal ambitions aside to help the people of New York and Staten Island, saying he was impressed with his personal conviction, his character, and his beliefs.

The chair of the Staten Island United Bloc Vote Shimshy Jalas said “Andrew Yang has made it a point to make the Jewish community feel valued and heard throughout the entire mayoral process. He brings a refreshing new approach to address the needs of not only our City’s recovery but also the needs of our community, unafraid to take unpopular but just positions on the issues. That kind of leadership as well as his enthusiasm to take on the challenges facing New York City is why we are supporting his candidacy for New York City Mayor. We will work together with our friend county chair Assemblyman Cusick to Get Out The Vote for Andrew Yang”

Said Andrew Yang, “I am so proud to have earned the united endorsement of such an incredible and diverse group of Jewish community Staten Island leaders. New York’s Jewish community is not only core to who we are as a City, but is also going to be critical in helping New York City’s. Like so many other communities in our city, the Jewish community has been neglected, especially here in Staten Island, and overlooked by our government. And that is why I’m running — to unify our city, and uplift the communities that have been denied a seat at the table for decades.”
