A suspect has been detained in connection with the two shootings this week in LA’s synagogues.
According to the LAPD, the suspect was detained in Riverside County, and weapons, including a handgun and a rifle, were taken as evidence.
Police claim the circumstances prompted them to pursue the case as a hate crime even though they initially claimed there was no evidence to support antisemitism.
The LAPD stated in a press release that the gunshots on Pico Boulevard on February 15 and 16 “may have included the same suspect”: an Asian man with a beard operating a white compact car.
According to the statement, “The Los Angeles Police Department is cognizant of the worry these crimes have created in the nearby neighborhood.”
“We have maintained strong communication with community and individual stakeholders and religious leaders. Also, we are reallocating police forces to the area to maintain an obvious preventative presence.
