The hashtag “#BantheADL” has recently been trending on Twitter, indicating that the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is involved in yet another controversy.
The group is being accused of defamation, which is ironic because it isn’t the first time. It is evident that the ADL is deeply ingrained in the radical left and that its policies pose a threat to Jewish values.
At the very least, it supports BDS advocates. It is a secular organization that contributes to the moral decay of society. Do they combat libel? Perhaps. Do they have a net positive impact on the Jewish community? It’s challenging to argue this point.
In short, the ADL is unrelated to anything “Jewish,” and it would be appropriate to stop referring to itself as “Jewish” and stop using the term in its mission statement and website.
Elon Musk recently asserted that, ironically, the ADL’s aggressive approach to banning social media accounts, even for minor infractions, was a factor in the rise of antisemitism on the platform.
This conduct is not unusual. Certainly, during the time that CEO Jonathan Greenblatt led the ADL, it has been a defining characteristic of the organization.
