On Monday, the 2024 campaign for President Joe Biden opened an account on Donald Trump’s Truth Social in an effort to make fun of the Republican candidate he may very likely run against again in the election this fall.
The @BidenHQ handle was used by the campaign to post: “Well, let’s see what happens. Welcome to converts! It started off on Truth Social by only following Trump’s account.
Despite the fact that Trump is currently charged with 91 crimes and has been indicted in four distinct cases, the former president has a commanding early lead in the Republican primary, setting up a potential rematch in 2020.
The Biden campaign made a note of the change on X, the social networking site that replaced Twitter, adding, “We just joined Truth Social, mostly because we thought it would be very funny.”
A senior campaign aide suggested that their participation would make Truth Social a little more entertaining by adding, “Follow us there for truths and retruths, or whatever they call them.”
The Biden team has already tried to use conservatives’ online platforms and messaging for its own purposes.
In July, it used a video of Georgia Republican U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a fervent admirer of Donald Trump, comparing Vice President Joe Biden to Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Lyndon B. Johnson as the basis for an internet advertisement.
Following the first Republican presidential debate in September, Biden’s team uploaded a video of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a challenger of Trump’s, accusing the former president’s administration of exploding government deficits and fueling current inflation rates.
That appeared beneath the line, “I couldn’t agree more.”
