In the general election held on Sunday, the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) under Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen declared a resounding victory.
Even though the official results hadn’t been made public yet, CPP spokesman Sok Eysan verified the outcomes on Sunday night, calling it yet another major victory for the CPP.
He told Xinhua, “We have won this election by a landslide, but we have not yet counted the number of seats we have obtained.
“This demonstrates the public’s trust in the CPP’s leadership,”
The election, which was held once every five years to choose 125 members of the National Assembly, featured a total of 18 political parties.
As official results will be made public on August 9, the National Election Committee was still tallying votes on Sunday night. The nation had its sixth election on Sunday since 1993.
The CPP secured all 125 seats in the National Assembly in the latest general election, which took place in 2018. The nation of Southeast Asia has been governed by the CPP since 1979.
