
The second-ranking Republican in the House, Rep. Steve Scalise, said on Tuesday that he has been given a multiple myeloma diagnosis and is undergoing treatment. Scalise, 57, declared he will carry on in the House.
The cancer, according to him, was “very treatable” and was found in its early stages.
The Louisiana Republican was one of many Individuals hurt in 2017 when a gunman opened fire on lawmakers in Alexandria, Virginia, outside of Washington, D.C., using a baseball field as his target.
After being shot in the hip, Scalise had to undergo protracted hospital stays, numerous surgeries, and difficult rehabilitation.
Scalise claimed that the cancer news came after he had not felt like himself for the previous week.
He claimed, he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, after subsequent testing revealed some anomalies in his blood tests. In a statement, Scalise stated, “I have now started therapy, which will continue for the upcoming few months.
I hope to continue serving the people of Louisiana’s First Congressional District and working through this time period before returning to Washington. Scalise also expressed gratitude to his medical staff and that he was “extremely fortunate” that the cancer had been caught so early and was curable.
Scalise declared, “I will approach this with the same vigor and zeal that I have approached prior problems.
