The NYPD reports that police were hurt during the pursuit of the car thief

While attempting to apprehend a burglar who had just stolen a minivan in Staten Island early on Saturday morning, five NYPD policemen were harmed in a collision, according to authorities.

Around 8 a.m., Randall Manor locals contacted 911 to report witnessing a man attempting to break into cars near Pelton Avenue and Richmond Terrace. The thief left in the red vehicle when police arrived, according to authorities.

The vehicle was located at Lafayette Avenue and Brighton Avenue after several units searched for it. Cops chased the van, which the suspect then crashed into a police vehicle at Pelton Avenue and Richmond Terrace. Still, the pursuit wasn’t over.

The thief fled on foot through backyards in a pursuit that came to an end on Elizabeth Avenue, where he was apprehended, according to police. In the event, one officer suffered a foot injury.

According to officials, the other officers only sustained minor wounds. Staten Island resident Dashawn Cook, 20, was detained and charged with a slew of offenses, including assaulting a police officer, grand larceny, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, fleeing the scene of an accident, obstructing government administration, using a vehicle without authorization, and criminal mischief.
