The increasing cases of COVID BA.2 have forced Anthony Fauci to skip the upcoming White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday.
Fauci said he has decided to stay away from the gathering at the Washington Hilton located in D.C.’s tony Dupont Circle neighborhood to avoid the risk of infection.
Sources said the top pandemic doctor in the US is vaccinated and double boosted.
Despite the booster shots, Fauci, 81, remains at high risk of getting inflicted with the COVID subvariant.
The fear of infection of Fauci is not farfetched as Vice President Kamala Harris, 57, tested positive for COVID on Tuesday and is taking Paxlovid, the Pfizer antiviral pill.
According to reports, when administered within five days of symptoms appearing, the drug has been proven to bring about a 90% reduction in hospitalizations and deaths among patients most likely to get severe disease.
