
Three Jewish leaders have been appointed by American President Joe Biden.
A nearly 40-year-old U.S. government organization called the Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad works to preserve historic sites, including cemeteries, monuments, and buildings, throughout Eastern and Central Europe.
Yair Robinson, senior rabbi at Congregation Beth Emeth, a Reform synagogue in Wilmington, Delaware; Joseph Douek, a businessman and philanthropist; and Rabbi Abba Cohen, vice president for government relations and Washington director of Agudath Israel of America, were chosen for the job on June 16.
The panel was established as a result of “the Holocaust and 45 years of atheist Communist governments,” according to the website.
“Most Jews in Europe were killed during the Holocaust, and those who survived were forced to escape.
No one was left in many nations to look after the community properties that represented an important aspect of Jewish religious life and a local historic culture.
