Despite Wednesday being one of the days the panel typically meets each week, the Manhattan grand jury looking into payments of hush money made to former President Donald Trump during his 2016 campaign will not meet on that day, according to four people familiar with the situation.
Three people claimed that the grand jurors were instructed to be ready for the panel’s meeting on Thursday. Although the reason for the delay was not immediately evident, it would seem that a decision on whether or not to indict Trump will be delayed at least temporarily.
The individuals who confirmed that the grand jury would not convene as planned did not have permission to speak on the record about those specifics.
The news comes amid growing indications that the grand jury’s investigation into payments made to a porn star who claims to have had a sexual encounter with Trump is almost finished.
Prosecutors recently invited Trump to testify before the panel to ensure that the grand jury would be given any material that may potentially be regarded exculpatory. As a result, the committee heard from a witness favorable to his case on Monday.
Although saying over the weekend that he anticipated being detained on Tuesday, the day passed without that happening.
