The anticipated jackpot for Tuesday night’s drawing has reportedly topped half a billion dollars, which means the holiday shopping season is picking up steam – at least for those who purchase Mega Millions of lottery tickets.
Lottery officials estimated the reward for Tuesday as of late Monday at $565 million, or more than $293 million if paid in cash, as no winners had purchased a ticket that matched all six numbers in the drawing that took place on Friday.
The drawing on Tuesday will start at midnight. EST.
The most recent Mega Millions jackpot of $502 million was split between tickets sold in Florida and California for a drawing on October 14.
Throughout the subsequent 20 drawings, the top reward in the lottery has continued to grow.
According to lottery authorities, since the launch of Mega Millions in 2002, there have been 11 jackpot wins totaling $500 million or more.
A jackpot above $1.3 billion was won in Illinois in July, and the record Mega Millions jackpot is over $1.5 billion, which was won in 2018.
In November, $2.04 billion was the highest lottery jackpot ever won in the United States.
The winning Powerball ticket was purchased in Southern California.
