According to U.S. and Western sources, an explosion was deliberately set off during the plane crash, that is thought to have killed Yevgeny Prigozhin, the commander of the Wagner organization.
Under the condition of anonymity, one of the officials stated that the explosion was consistent with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s „long history of trying to silence his critics.”
The officials provided no information regarding the cause of the explosion, which is thought to have murdered Prigozhin and several of his lieutenants in retaliation for a mutiny that questioned the authority of the Russian leader.
While expressing his condolences to the families of those who were reportedly aboard the flight on Thursday, Putin revealed details of the U.S. assessment and mentioned „serious mistakes.“
