Eight to seventeen-year-old youngsters from Connecticut died in a fiery early-morning collision on a New York roadway on Sunday, according to police.
When the car went off the Hutchinson River Parkway in Scarsdale, hit a tree, and caught fire, police think a 16-year-old kid was at the wheel.
The sole survivor was a 9-year-old child who was the sixth passenger in the Nissan Rogue, according to a statement made by Kieran O’Leary, spokesman for the Westchester County Police Department.
The 9-year-old “probably was traveling in the rear hatchback/cargo area and fled out the rear,” the statement reads. The youngster was brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Four guys and one female were among the five people that were killed. Their names have not yet been made public. They are all from Connecticut, according to police.
According to Matt Conway, the district’s head of schools, the youngsters were from a new immigrant family from New York to Derby, Connecticut. Nevertheless, the family was not enrolled in the system. Conway claimed that on Sunday, he contacted the father and tried to educate him about the community resources available to help him and his family. He intended to talk with the father again on Monday.
It is unfathomable. One child, let alone five that you’re going to have to make plans for, is an insensitive thing for anyone, let alone five that you’re going to have to make provisions for,” Conway added.
Around 12:20 in the morning, according to police, the car crashed. And is the subject of an inquiry. Scarsdale is around 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of Derby.
