One of the women released from Hamas captivity on Monday night, Yocheved Lifshitz, talked to the media for the first time on Tuesday, although she declined to take questions from reporters. Lifshitz is still a patient at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv; her husband is still being kept captive in Gaza.

She introduced herself as Yocheved Lifshitz and said, “I was born in Israel in 1938. I appreciate you coming to hear about my sadness and the tragedy of my friends.

“I experienced horrific experiences; we had no idea we would find ourselves in such a predicament. They got out of control at the kibbutz (Nir Oz), abducted me, put me on the side of the motorcycle, and rode across the fields in the direction of Gaza.

They confiscated my watch and other jewelry during this period, and the shabab (young people) beat me with sticks. “They destroyed the fence, which cost 2.5 billion shekels to build, and it had no effect.”

“They broke into our houses. They abducted everyone without making a distinction between the young and the old. They severely wounded me as I lay on the motorcycle on the way there.

My ribs weren’t broken, but they made breathing quite difficult for me. Lifshitz spoke about the arduous trek through the muddy terrain and the tunnels, describing them as “like a spider’s web” and stretching for many kilometers. They were initially a group of 25, but were later put in a room with other members of her kibbutz as a group of five.

In addition, Lifshitz provided details about their daily diet, which she stated consisted of pitot, cheese, and cucumbers, as well as the sanitary conditions and medical care, both of which she deemed to be good.

Lifshitz was seen Monday night shaking the terrorist from Hamas’s hand as he gave the woman to the Red Cross. When questioned about this contentious move, she responded that he had treated her well.
