According to Iran’s foreign minister, “preemptive action is possible” if Israel advances toward its impending ground offensive in the Gaza Strip. The remarks made by Hossein Amirabdollahian are consistent with Iran’s history of rising rhetoric, whose theocracy supports Hezbollah and Hamas in Lebanon. Israel cannot “do whatever it wants in Gaza and then go after other resistance groups after it’s done with Gaza,” he said on state television.
“Therefore, in the ensuing hours, any preventative action is possible.”
He made no mention of the potential details of such action. Opening new fronts against the Zionist state is unavoidable, he warned, “if the limited and extremely tight windows of opportunity available to the United Nations and political actors are not used over the coming hours.”
