According to authorities, a shooting in a Midtown Atlanta building on Wednesday left one person dead and at least four people hurt.
Since the initial shooting occurred inside a structure on West Peachtree Street, between 12th and 13th Streets, a commercial area with many office towers and high-rise apartments, Atlanta police reported that no additional shots had been fired.
Just after 1 p.m., police stated in an email that there was no suspect in custody. it was an “active, fluid situation.”
The culprit and any additional victims were being vigorously sought after, according to a police email.
The fourth individual was pronounced dead on the spot, while the other three were rushed to a hospital for treatment.
The shooting occurred in 2023, a year with a spike in gun violence and mass shootings in American cities.
Police released a picture of the shooter they believed to be responsible. The individual was dressed in dark slacks and a hooded t-shirt in a light color.
They appeared to be wearing a bag across their front and had a mask covering their face.
Authorities urged anyone with knowledge of the suspect’s whereabouts to phone 911 because they believed the person to be armed and dangerous.
Police urged anyone in the area to secure their structure and seek shelter.
After the gunshot, police with assault-style rifles, helmets, and vests continued to come, and dozens of police and fire trucks congregated along West Peachtree Street.
A large group of police officers gathered in front of a Northside Medical building. While police attempted to maintain traffic on the nearby streets, numerous helicopters hovered overhead.
Construction workers in the Midtown neighborhood, where countless new high-rises are being built, were observed from the closest corner.
