An inspiring Shabbat was spent in Meron by Rabbi Elimelech Biderman, a prominent proponent of chasidic philosophy with thousands of followers worldwide. Rabbi Biderman was carrying two burning torches when he slipped off the stage while dancing in front of his supporters on a specially set-up stage.
Rabbi Biderman fortunately escaped the tragedy unharmed, and on Sunday morning he offered the Nishmas prayer of gratitude for avoiding serious injuries from the accident.
The event happened at 1:30 AM on Motzaei Shabbos while the group was dancing to upbeat music to get ready for the next Slichos days.
After falling, Rav Elimelech climbed to his feet and carried on with his routine. Doctors examined him and discovered that he merely had bruising on his leg and no fractures.
After the incident, Rav Elimelech made a statement about it, quoting Rabbi Shlomo of Zvil, who said that if someone is struck in the middle of praying, it is a sign that Hashem has aided him and the prayer has been heard.
If the chazan is struck, it means that everyone in the assembly will find salvation and that their prayers have been heard.
