Jake Sullivan, a top White House advisor, was interrogated by CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday over Israel’s decision to cut off water to Gaza and the resulting “humanitarian crisis.”
Additionally, Tapper questioned whether efforts are being made by the United States to free American hostages in Gaza. Is freeing the captives even a priority? Sullivan was pressed by Tapper.
He continued, “I mean, Israeli news outlets like Haaretz say it doesn’t appear like it at all. And to be quite honest, Jake, if my kids were being taken hostage in Gaza—where, as you are aware, Americans are currently being held prisoner—I would want you to send in the Navy SEALs.
What is the White House’s current thinking regarding any operations the US might carry out to free Americans being held captive in Gaza? ‘
The president has made it abundantly clear that getting the Americans back safely who are being held hostage by Hamas is his top concern, Sullivan stressed.
“The Israelis are mercilessly bombing Gaza!” Tapper pressed. “And Jake, I mean, it doesn’t seem like freeing the hostages is a top priority at all right now. Well, they are a top priority for President Biden.
They are given the utmost priority, Sullivan reiterated. ‘I have to be cautious about how much I can say about particular initiatives he’s making, because we want to protect those efforts to give us the greatest possible chance of sending our guys home,’ said Biden’s national security adviser.
