Around 4:30 AM, a sizable fire broke out on Shabbat morning at the Beirach Moshe-Satmar shul in Geulah.
The Talmud Torah on the upper floor was severely damaged, and the entire Beis Midrash was destroyed.
The fire damaged some Sifrei Torah and Tefillin, but firefighters saved most of them.
Firefighters from our station found a sizable fire on the roof of the Beis Midrash, which borders the yeshiva’s three stories, according to Shai Nehemia, the station’s chief fireman.
The yeshiva building experienced significant damage from intense smoke. The roof of the Beis Midrash collapsed.
“Firefighters evacuated the occupants of the neighboring buildings and stopped the fire from spreading to those buildings.
“We were able to save eight Sifrei Torah. Some of them were damaged. Despite the fire in the ceiling and the real danger of it collapsing, hundreds of holy texts and sets of Tefillin were also saved. The firefighters’ tenacity saved a catastrophic disaster, loss of life, and property damage.
A special investigative committee has been formed to ascertain the causes of the fire.
According to early reports, a Shabbos hot plate that was being prepared for a kiddush that would take place in the morning is where the fire originated.
