
Extreme flooding brought on by heavy rain caused road closures and at least one fatality in the Hudson Valley of New York on Sunday night.
Southeast New York had flash flood advisories from the National Weather Service, which described them as “life-threatening.”
According to Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus, one individual died as a result of the water.
State Route 9W was inundated, and portions of the Palisades Interstate Parkway had to be closed due to flooding, according to a statement from the New York State Police.
The public was asked to stay off the parkway by the police.
According to WABC, Cedar Pond Brook in Stony Point was rushing over the highway and into private residences.
The executive of Rockland County, Ed Day, advised citizens to “remain indoors in a safe location” until the torrential downpour subsided.
