The government is looking into the hospital after a 76-year-old lady who was reported dead at a hospital in Ecuador shocked her family by pounding on her coffin at her wake.
After the wake on Friday in the central city of Babahoyo, family members left the casket behind and took retired nurse Bella Montoya back to the hospital, according to son Gilberto Barbera.
Doctors have stated that his mother’s condition is still critical. “It gave us all a fright,” said Barbera, adding that.
According to the Ecuadorian Ministry of Health, Montoya was receiving intensive care on Monday at the Martn Icaza Hospital in Babahoyo as the government looked into the doctors who treated her.
According to a statement from the government, a technical committee has been established to examine how the hospital provides death certificates.
According to the ministry, Montoya was first taken to the hospital on Friday with a potential stroke and cardiac arrest.
When she failed to react to CPR, the attending physician ruled her dead. When his mother was rushed to the emergency department, according to Barbera, she was unconscious.
A few hours later, a doctor told Barbera that his mother had passed away and handed him her identification papers and a death certificate.
The family later took her to a funeral home, where they were conducting a wake when they began to hear unusual noises.
There were roughly 20 of us there, according to Barbera.
“The casket began to make noises after the wake had been going on for almost five hours.
When we arrived, my mother was lying on the casket, draped in linen, and we could see she was breathing heavily.
She was still in a critical state on Monday even though he and his family had brought her back to the hospital on Friday.
According to Barbera, she was being intubated and physicians weren’t giving her family members much hope for the future.
The doctor who had incorrectly pronounced the woman dead has not been identified.
