War rages in neighboring Ukraine as Poland displays its military prowess in a parade

In advance of the parliamentary elections slated for October 15, Poland held a military parade on Tuesday to display its cutting-edge weapons and defensive systems while war rages over its southern border in neighboring Ukraine.

In sweltering temperatures that were predicted to exceed 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit), crowds gathered to view South Korean FA-50 fighter jets, K9 howitzers, HIMARS mobile artillery systems, and Abrams tanks built in the United States.

The right-wing government of Poland has spent more than $16 billion on tanks, missile interceptor systems, and fighter jets since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, with many of these items coming from the United States and South Korea.

On the anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw, in which Polish troops fought Bolshevik forces sweeping throughout Europe in 1920, a parade was conducted in the nation’s capital.

Poland’s defense capabilities have been strengthened by the military upgrades, and part of the equipment has replaced Soviet and Russian-made goods that Poland had sent to Ukraine. In order to better discourage possible aggressors, Poland is constructing one of Europe’s strongest militaries and has expanded the number of troops stationed along its border with Belarus, a crucial ally of Russia.

The populist ruling Law and Justice party will be vying for a historic third term in office in the October elections; therefore, Poland’s government is using military prowess to win over voters.
