The Western Wall’s security personnel prevented the feminist Women of the Wall organization from entering the plaza with a Torah scroll on Sunday morning.
“A small group of Women of the Wall came to the Western Wall and caused provocations and turned the Western Wall into a place of controversy,” the Western Wall Heritage Foundation reported.
One of the group members attempted to bring in a Torah scroll that had been smuggled shamelessly.
Still, Western Wall security stopped him, and the scroll was deposited to be respectfully maintained.
“The Western Wall Rabbi’s guards grabbed and confiscated the Woman of the Wall’s Torah scroll and even detained a worshiper who was on her way to a Women of the Wall festive prayer service with the scroll as if she were a criminal,” the Women of the Wall organization said in a statement.
It is absurd and upsetting that the Rabbi of the Western Wall desecrates a Torah scroll, desecrates a women’s prayer session, and confiscates a Torah scroll intended for women to read the Torah at the Western Wall just before Shavuot.
This holiday commemorates the gift of the Torah. The time has arrived to free the Western Wall from the Rabbi’s control and to ensure equality for all.
