On Monday, Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin called Governor Kathy Hochul a coward for refusing to participate in multiple debates before the Nov. 8 election.
“Kathy Hochul says the choice is zero debates or one debate,” the Long Island congressman said. “It’s because Kathy Hochul is a coward. Let’s be honest. It’s because she’s scared to debate.”

Zeldin has called for at least five debates across the state but Hochul last month agreed to just one.
In another news conference in The Bronx, Zeldin told reporters that he’d just spent 30 minutes being interviewed at the PIX11 TV studio in Manhattan. “My understanding is that Kathy Hochul did a 30-minute interview with PIX11 as well, and they’re gonna air it on Friday,” he said. “We should have been standing there next to each other and instead she didn’t have time to stand there next to me — but she did have time to stand there by herself.”
Zeldin also slammed Hochul for her new attack ad tying him to former President Donald Trump, who endorsed Zeldin on Sunday. “Kathy Hochul is out trying to crawl across the finish line. She’s trying to survive this election. I’m working as hard as I possibly can to do my part to save the state. Kathy Hochul’s barely working to try to save Kathy Hochul.” he said.
