On Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy pledged strong punishment for a Russian missile strike on the city of Chernihiv in northern Ukraine the day before that left seven people dead and almost 150 others injured.
“I have no doubt that our military will hold Russia accountable for this terrorist act. Respond concretely,” Zelenskyy urged in a video speech that was released early on Sunday at the conclusion of his journey to Sweden, his first overseas excursion since last month’s NATO meeting in Lithuania.
He stated that 15 children were among the injured and that the attack’s dead included a 6-year-old girl called Sofia.
Vyacheslav Chaus, the governor of the Chernihiv area, announced on Sunday that there are now 148 confirmed victims of injuries.
Oleh Syniehubov, the regional governor of Kharkiv, reported that Russian soldiers shelled the city of Kupiansk on Sunday morning, gravely injuring a civilian.
Zelenskyy landed in the Netherlands on Sunday, two days after the Netherlands announced that the United States had authorized the delivery of F-16 fighter jets to the Ukrainian air force by the Dutch and Danish governments.
At a military aviation base in the southern city of Eindhoven, Zelenskyy will meet Mark Rutte, the prime minister of the Netherlands.
Even though the American-made fighter jets won’t have an immediate impact on the nearly 18-month battle, the U.S.’s Friday permission for the Netherlands and Denmark to transfer F-16s to Ukraine was regarded as a big victory for Kiev.
